Millions spent. One consistent lesson.

Over the years I have managed campaigns across virtually every major service industry, locally and abroad across SA, the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and many EU countries. Before starting TDC, I was operations manager and lead growth hacker at a performance lead gen agency, where I had a front-row seat to how customer acquisition works at scale across dozens of industries at once.

Across all of it, the same pattern kept showing up regardless of industry, budget or business size. Campaigns would be delivering profitable results. But there was always something holding them back from their full potential. It always happened in the same place, the initial stages of the sales process. Slow follow-up. No follow-up. The wrong person calling back at the wrong time. A lead arriving on a Friday night that nobody saw until Monday morning.

And here is the thing. It was not just smaller businesses without dedicated sales infrastructure. I worked with companies that had sales teams of 25 or more people whose entire job was to contact leads. These people still had bad days. They still clocked off at 5pm. They did not have the same skin in the game that founders and executives did, and the results reflected that.

I will not pretend I have not seen some things. I once watched, in real time, a temporary sales person bulk-highlight 50 to 100 leads at a time in a spreadsheet and paste identical feedback notes across all of them, marking them as contacted when it was physically impossible, at the rate they were moving, for a single one of those calls to have actually been made. That's the type of sh*t that sometimes goes down for leads YOU'RE paying for.

Most businesses were getting results. The point is they could always have been doing better. And that gap was out of human control.

That is why I built TDC. To take the customer acquisition expertise I had built across years inside the agency world and combine it with AI that closes the part of the process that humans never could. Consistently, instantly, around the clock. Every lead qualified the moment it arrives. No bad days. No clocking off. No gaps.

I keep it deliberately focused on a handful of clients at a time. Every account personally managed by me from strategy through to daily execution. That is not a constraint. It is what makes the results possible.

Having spent years inside the agency world and still closely tied to it, there is one thing I understand better than most.

The marketing industry has one of the highest client churn rates of any professional services industry. Having been inside it, I think I know why. Agencies that try to scale do so on volume. More clients means more revenue, but it also means more staff and building a team of genuinely exceptional people is expensive and difficult. What tends to happen is that juniors get hired, accounts get stacked, and the people who sold you on the pitch are not the ones running your account. Sold at the top. Delivered at the bottom. The agency gets stretched thin, the attention drops, and the results follow.

The barrier to entry in this industry is also low. There are a lot of people operating as agencies and as freelancers who genuinely do not know what they are doing. To a business owner who does not understand digital marketing, it is easy to be sold convincingly by someone who cannot back it up.

That is not a knock on everyone. There are genuinely exceptional agencies globally and within South Africa that deliver outstanding results and treat their clients properly. I have major respect for my previous agency. You guys are beasts!

But the reality is that in a market where anyone can call themselves a digital marketer, you end up playing hot potato until you find someone who actually knows what they are doing.

TDC is not built to be the biggest. Every account I take on gets my direct involvement in strategy, execution and day-to-day management. Do I have people who help me with certain things? Yes. But the difference is I am never the face of the pitch who disappears after the contract is signed.
